Milne Land (1800 - 2200m)

The first set of photos below are compiled by Dick Griffiths from the West Lancashire Scouts Summer 2004 exploratory expedition to the Korridoren glacier and Puderne icecap of central Milne Land island.

  •   Stunning base camp locations in the heart of this 120x50km remote arctic island, tucked away in the frozen inner fjords of Scoresby Sound, the largest fjord in the world.
  • Range upon range of alpine granite peaks up to 2,000m
  • Many unclimbed peaks and summits
  • Up to 1000m vertical height gain from base camps to summits
  • Fantastic spring ski touring and ski mountaineering
  • Major first ski and snowboard descent potential!
  • Superb rock climbing, comparable with Baffin Island!
  • Endless opportunities for new technical routes on steep alpine peaks
  • Excellent mixed climbing
  • Major potential for multi day big wall climbing
  • Ideal time to visit:
    - March-early May for ski touring
    - June-August for rock climbing and trekking
