Sortebrae Ranges (new unclimbed ranges)

Many other unclimbed mountain ranges exist within this generally unknown and virtually unexplored part of east Greenland.

  • Unlimited potential for easy grade first ascents.
  • Region includes everything from glacier based peaks to inland icecap nunatak summits.
  • Ideal for easy ski touring exploration of large areas on mainly easy angle glaciers.
  • Extensive views over the Greenland icecap.
  • Up to 1000m vertical height gain from base camps to summits.
  • Endless opportunities for new technical snow and ice routes.
  • Basalt rock so NOT suitable for rock or mixed climbing.
  • Contains some mighty impressive unclimbed massifs!
  • Ideal time to visit - May to August.

The following photos below are taken from Tangent's two exploratory mountaineering expeditions in May/June 2006 in which many new mountains were climbed and previously untrodden glacier systems explored. All photos Copyright 2006 Mark Bull, Gillian Duncan and Jim Gregson.
